Topic > The Effects of Temperature on Water - 750
The pH of natural water remains between 6.0 and 8.5 but may be affected by chemicals entering waterways (Chapman and Kimstach 1992). Water quality assessment can be best performed with the use of this parameter as it influences many biological and chemical processes within a body of water (Chapman and Kimstach 1992, p.62). Extreme pH influences the adaptation of many aquatic macroinvertebrates by disrupting their natural physical and environmental processes. Furthermore, the availability of nutrients such as calcium and magnesium can be compromised when the pH becomes too low compared to the normal value of the river
