Have you ever seen the BBC series “Sherlock”? How about “Tinker Tailor Soldier” or “Hawking”? One man who appeared on all of these programs has become very well known over the past few years. He still acts in numerous series and films today. His name is Benedict Cumberbatch and his story is interesting and humbling. Benedict Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976. Benedict was never a very polite child. His parents had sent him to Harrow, one of the most prestigious and expensive boarding schools in Great Britain, to Brambletye School, Manchester University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic art. While at Harrow, he behaved so badly that his headteacher reported to his parents with the words "Ben is slightly more controlled but needs to try to be less noisy" (McCaffrey). Cumberbatch got into fights and even pushed a girl off the stage while he was continuing to perform because he was too self-indulgent. His parents were both professional actors and always tried to do everything they could for him, including working hard to give him the opportunity to choose what he wanted to do when he grew up. Originally, Benedict Cumberbatch was not on track to become a star. He was on his way to becoming a lawyer, acting as an alternative. He explained his thoughts in an NPR interview: “I just met a bunch of other people in the same class who said it's all about chance and luck. And I thought, 'Well, why am I giving up my primary dream of working twice as hard to do something as an alternative to what I really still want to do?' "(Cumberbatch). Benedict's acting career took a turn in the right direction "when he played the role of Antonio Salieri in a college production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus" (Cumberbatch)... middle of paper... continues to act and work hard. He has been hired to do another season of the BBC series "Sherlock". The first episode will air in America on January 19, 2014. Cumberbatch continues to try new things, like being a dragon in the new one. Hobbit movie and a villain in the new Star Trek movie.
