My First Year - What a Professor Learned by Becoming a Student by Rebekah Nathan is about a college professor who investigates the lifestyles of college students during their first year. There have been many times when college professors assigned a large amount of work and expected it to be turned in in a short period of time. For professors, they may think that a week is enough time. However, for students like me it seems to be only two or three days. As college students, especially in our first year, we experience a lot of pressure. We have about three or four classes, school activities and of course our personal life. Sometimes college professors may not remember that this is a point in students' lives when they have many responsibilities but little time to deal with new circumstances. There's peer pressure, lack of focus, and so many things happening all at once. Many times professors wonder why students cheat, are rude, less motivated, careless about their work. A college professor Cathy Small uses the pseudonym Rebekah Nathan in an attempt to see what it's really like to be in the place of a college student. Rebekah Nathan is a cultural anthropologist in her fifties. In order to carry out her studies on undergraduates, Rebekah returns to her old college, AnyU, to register as an undergraduate student. She says she would only give people more information unless they asked her what things she plans to do at the university. His answer would be to teach and do research. Before returning as a "college student", she asked fake questions with her friends so that she would be ready to answer questions from people who would try to meet her. Even if his answers weren't entirely true, they were written...middle of the paper...ok and when cheating was acceptable. One person said: “Sorry, but there are worse things to do than cheat on homework.” (Nathan, 125) He noted that over half of the students who responded thought that cheating depends on the situation or circumstances.
