With new technological innovations nearly every teen is connected to social media in some way, whether via phone, computer or iPod, and most teens have smartphones that make all easier for them to access social media. Social media affects teenagers in many negative ways, it changes the way they think and interact, for example excessive use of technology, it allows cyberbullying and websites cause low self-esteem because teenagers see images where "it" appears . Excessive use of technology makes teenagers more antisocial in real life because popular social media becomes addicted to it without knowing its negative effects. It leads to fewer face-to-face interactions. Additionally, with smartphones in today's society, teenagers have access to the Internet everywhere. The more time teens spend on these websites, the less time they spend in the real world. What you see every day, if you go to school at lunch, teenagers are sitting with a group of people and they're all mostly on their phones. In a recent study, 78% of teens now own a cell phone, nine out of ten teens (93%) have a computer or have access to one at home, making it easier to access social media sites (Harvard, University). Teens spend most of their day on their phones, texting people who check their social media, and these sites have made many teens addicted to their use. Negative impacts include lower productivity in school as people tend to close their accounts. Ironically, it is causing teens to become less social through social media because teens text and use apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Therefore, with new and addictive websites, teenagers become less sociable with real life.
