Parents play an important role in their children's lives because of the way they choose to raise them. Parents tell their children what is right and what is wrong. According to Wikipedia, “Parenting style is a psychological construct that represents the standard strategies that parents use in raising children.” By using the technique to raise their children, parents also shape their value and personality. “Parenting style considers the balance between two aspects of parenting, namely, control and warmth” (Ginsburg, Durbin, Garcias-Espana, Kalicka, & Winston, p. 1041). The most commonly heard parenting styles are authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved. Authoritarian parenting is the one that has the most control and provides the least support, while authoritarian parenting also has the most control, but with the most support. Permissive parenting parents give their children all the necessary support and little control. Uninvolved parents are fundamentally similar to carless parents; they give almost no support and no control to their children. What parenting style did your parents use with you? In 2009, the American Academy Pediatrics published a journal along with a research case, Associations Between Parenting Styles and Adolescent Guidance, Safety-Related Behaviors and Attitudes. The study claimed to analyze how parenting related to driving behavior. At the end of the study, professionals suggested that parents should place limits on their children's freedom (Ginsburg, Durbin, Garcias-Espana, Kalicka, & Winston, p. 1042-1043).
