Life in this world today grants people the luxury of doing exactly that thing. Social media and the Internet/television are today's “Tastee-Freeze”. Ferlinghetti's poetry cradle satire laced with the words of each verse to a level equivalent to Kurt Vonnegut's novel, and it is with this mockery that they carry an identical paradoxical image of the “beautiful place” that the world pretends to be. Yes, the world is a beautiful place "if you don't mind that some people die / all the time / or maybe they just starve / sometimes / which isn't that bad / if that's not you." (Ferlinghetti 14-19) With the push of a button on a TV remote or a click of a mouse on a computer, no one is forced to consult the “biting cold” or the world anymore. Even if the war was discussed on a news channel, it's watered down to be less harsh on the eyes and ears, and if it's still too horrible to handle... *click*. People nowadays are too apathetic about acquiring knowledge and choose ignorance instead, because ignorance is often a blessing and they wish to have the "pleasure" of the world without the "bitter coldness" of the truth.
