Progress in the economy and society would give rise to new ideas. And this period of interest in the European country is known as the Renaissance, a French word for “rebirth.” The dawn of the Renaissance came first from Italy, then made its way to France and England. It is difficult to date the Renaissance precisely, but it can be said that in Italy the impact of Greek culture was felt during the Turkish conquest of Constantinople. The Greek scholars then fled and took refuge in Italy, bringing with them ancient Greek literature in the form of manuscripts, which would then be adopted and followed by many scholars throughout the world. The light of the Renaissance came very slowly to the isolated island of England; around the beginning of the 16th century, but its wide implications in England had a strong influence on that country. The Renaissance was said to be humanity's discovery of itself and the world, because of its implications. The advent of the Renaissance flourished the literary, artistic and intellectual development of many places, as these scholars and artists were inspired by the arts and scholarship of ancient Greece and Rome. The Renaissance had many implications for European society. First, the Renaissance influenced medieval scholasticism which held together the thoughts of the man of the present era. The unnecessary controversies based on Aristotelian principles and the philosophy of Christianity were put aside, giving rise to a new form of literature, more advanced and more humane. Second, the Renaissance marked a form of rebellion against spiritual authority. – the authority of the pope. The Renaissance inspired current... middle of paper......cal learning. While the spirit of Chaucer's poetry slept, few individuals made the effort to bring the spirit of poetry back to England. Sir Thomas Wyatt and the Earl of Surrey were the pioneers of the new poetry in England. Wyatt, who traveled through Italy and France, was influenced by Renaissance ideas. He introduced the sonnet into English literature, and Surrey contributed by writing the first blank verse. Both were subsequently adopted by a large number of the best English poets. His sonnets, although not really using regular iambic pentameter, created a sense of awareness for most poets of the time. Wyatt's style adopts Italian and French models, as well as versification. Fifteen or sixteen of his sonnets use Shakespearean formulas. His work is characterized by both graceful tenderness and great harmony.
