Building the Foundation for the FutureWhen I think about what my teaching style will one day be like, I am reminded of a particular parable that I have known since my childhood. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew, one night Peter and many other fishermen were fishing in the ocean when from far away they could see a man walking on the water towards them. That man was Jesus. Peter was afraid that the figure was not Jesus, but instead a spirit, so Jesus told Peter to get out of the boat and come to him. Then Peter came down and walked on the water towards Jesus. But then the wind began to blow furiously, making Peter afraid. He looked down, began to sink, and then cried out to Jesus to help him. Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, grabbed Peter and said: "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?". (Matthew 14:31). Most children today want to learn, but every now and then an obstacle arises on their path to knowledge that they cannot overcome on their own. Faced with such obstacles, whether it is their parents' divorce or repeated failures in a certain subject, they usually become scared and just need someone to shout “Help!” A. Just as Jesus immediately helped Peter, I also want to immediately help those students who doubt they can overcome something. I don't want my students to ever doubt that they can do something, and eventually become too reluctant to even try again just because they've failed once or twice. I want to be there to assure my students that they can do anything they put their mind to, and I will be there to help them along the way. I believe children are one of God's gifts in this...... half of the article ......although the latter may not be as important as math, English, science and social studies , they still deserve a lot of attention, because they also work to benefit students by making them a more well-rounded individual. My professional development plans are to earn my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-6 and possibly specialize in a subject area. I'm currently still debating whether or not to major or not, but if I do I might major in math. In my plans for after graduation there is also the possibility of attending the Master's degree, so that I can one day become a Principal if I decide I want to do it or not. But overall I'm still very undecided about my plans after graduation. I'm really excited right now as I get closer to the date I earn my teaching degree!
