Although he did not invent it, much of Leonardo's legacy lies in painting as he popularized and helped advance several techniques that are still used today which he is still extremely closely associated with. His observation of the natural world comes to life in his paintings and documents with “great accuracy and detail.” Leonardo Da Vinci's greatness and legacy were created through the diversity of his knowledge. His great depth of understanding is something that even by today's standards would be difficult to find in another individual. Da Vinci embraced anatomy, biology, engineering, architecture and science in a way never seen before, as well as being one of the greatest painters of all time.
