Topic > Ted Bundy and Psychodynamic Theory - 1234

Theodore Bundy was born on November 24, 1946. He was born to an unwed mother who was told she was his sister. He was raised by his grandparents who portrayed themselves as his parents during his early childhood. According to the article I read, Ted's grandfather was abusive towards Ted and his other siblings (Montaldo). Ted was shy and was said to be gregarious and awkward, but during high school he became a handsome boy and was liked by many. Ted met his first girlfriend in college and eventually fell in love. His girlfriend didn't see Ted as someone who would be successful and eventually left him and it broke his heart. It was around that time that he also learned the truth about his family. He developed a deep depression and this marked the moment when his murderous adventures began. Ted's breakup with his girlfriend was a big problem for him. It seemed like his problems really came to the surface after this point. That's when it became quite dysfunctional. The rupture could be marked within Axis III (Comer, 2011). This is a general medical condition that Ted suffers from as an adult. Ted Bundy's killing style depicts sexual sadism. Sexual sadism is the intense sexual arousal resulting from the thought or act of inflicting suffering on others by dominating, restraining, blindfolding, cutting, strangling, maiming, or even killing the victim (Comer, 2011). This condition would fall under Axis I because it causes significant harm. Ted Bundy had antisocial personality disorder which is on axis II of the DSM-IV-TR. It is characterized by the following: failure to comply with social norms regarding lawful behavior as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that constitute grounds for arrest, deception,… middle of paper…participation in therapy . They don't understand that something needs to change. As I did my research on Ted, I believe he was ready for change. I think the therapy sessions to uncover the inner turmoil along with the medications may have helped Ted. It would have been interesting to see if these treatments would have worked.
