For some industries, such as the petrochemical industry which has continuous production, the ERP system is a must for processing orders and organizing internal data. For industries like these, the success of the organization is directly linked to the ability to adapt functions to the requirements of the ERP system. However, global organizations serving the ultimate consumer/customer, depending on portfolio differences, unique data, such as customer database, may be stored locally. Rather than organizations providing intermediate goods, organizations serving diverse and demographically diverse customers around the world may choose to maintain variability in their ERP systems. (As described in the HP vs. Monsanto comparison) In line with variability, organizations should decide the degree of local autonomy of the ERP system. Additionally, some companies may choose to modify the system based on the specific needs of the organization, which will not be so economical. If applicable; implementation, training and customization of ERP systems should be done with the leadership of business-based teams
