Jasmine LavigneMrs. Langford Writers Craft Tuesday, March 18, 2014 Movie Review - The Wolf of Wall Street On December 25, 2013, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio meet once again in one of the most anticipated films of the year, The Wolf of Wall Street. Martin Scorsese is well known for his so-called "R" films. Among his most popular films are Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York, Mean Streets, Raging Bull and The Departed. All of these films have similar themes; violence, criminal activity and more violence. The Wolf of Wall Street fits these themes perfectly and Scorsese brings another thrilling film to the big screen. The film is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort. It follows him from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life, to his fall into addiction, crime and corruption. Leonardo DiCaprio takes the lead role in the film as Jordan Belfort, and is joined by Jonah Hill who plays Donnie Azoff (Belfort's friend). DiCaprio does a great job playing a money-hungry stockbroker whose first goal in life is to be successful. To the outside world, Belfort is living the American dream; a beautiful bride, sports cars galore, a palace as a home and even a luxurious yacht. However, behind the scenes lies a dark side, as he struggles to omit the temptations of sex, drugs, tax evasion, fraud, and ultimately has to face the FBI. DiCaprio is downright charming in this role, proving that he's even better at playing a scoundrel who's all about money and power than a romantic. Additionally, there is strong support from Jonah Hill throughout the film. He was also excellent in the role of Belfort's best friend. It's no surprise that... middle of paper... so many things can be learned from this true story. Belfort lives the American dream for much of the film, but slowly begins to realize that money isn't everything as he slowly begins to lose his family. There are many lessons to learn from this film. Even though the film is controversial, I personally loved it. Leonardo DiCaprio has expanded his acting career to a new level. He made this movie great. If you like a great story with lots of scenes that will make you laugh, The Wolf of Wall Street is a great choice. Make sure you choose an evening when you have nothing to do, because watching this film will take three hours of your time and you will be fascinated by the opening scene. To conclude, I think the film is very well made and deserves to be at the top of your to-do list if you haven't already seen it. Enjoy!
