In World Geography, we learned about the African divide between Hutu culture and Tutsi culture. We watched a film called Hotel Rwanda that explained what the genocide was like. This genocide took place in 1994 after the assassination of Hutu president Juvénal Habyarimana. In Rwanda, the main religion is Hutu, while the minority is Tutsi. When this murder took place, there was a sudden epidemic in the nation. The Hutus were divided into two main groups, the Hutu army and the Hutu militia. The Hutu militia was made up of black men who wanted to kill every Tutsi criminal, but they considered everyone to be criminal. This genocide caused nearly a million Tutsi deaths. In this film we see several things wrong with the way the society was managed and governed. One of the human rights that was abused was freedom of religion. Freedom of religion was abused by Hutu militias because they thought that if you weren't Hutu you had no reason to live. Another right that they abused was freedom of assembly, this meant that Hutu and Tutsi were not considered equal, so it was very illegal ...
