Topic > The prophecy of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38-39 - 3397

Introduction Within the Abrahamic religions eschatology brings forth many debates, this includes chapter 38-39 of Ezekiel in reference to Gog and Magog. The prophecies from Isaiah to Revelation are intertwined, thus making it important to identify and understand the accomplices, interludes, geography, and various elucidations that help to accurately analyze and understand this prophecy. It is important to recognize that “the major interpretive difficulties in these two chapters are the identity of the characters and places, as well as the time in which these events occur.” There are extensive elucidations regarding the invasion of Gog and Magog, therefore, which require a concentration on Dispensationalism and various scholarly interpretations which include: “John Walvoord, beginning of the tribulation; DL Cooper, before the tribulation; AC Gaebelein, early millennium; Charles Feinberg, End of the Tribulation; and CC Ryrie, multiple fulfillments,” each with its own strengths and weaknesses, is the basis of this work. That being said, this article will not postulate a conclusive resolution regarding this prophecy, rather it will advocate the culmination of the tribulation position, as many souls have argued on this topic throughout the ages. When considering elucidation and syntactic organization, Ezekiel should be interpreted as “literal” because “there is not a syllable at the beginning of this chapter that invites us to explain the passage other than by a literal method.” The mechanical arrangement of the two chapters can be delimited in various ways, and it may be prudent to use “four major divisions” which are marked by “four commands to the prophet: 38:2, 14 and 39:1, 17.” Contextual...... middle of paper......l, 1997.Strong, James.
