Causes of Eating Disorders Eating disorders are several types of serious eating disorders that cause people to focus only on diet and weight. Some main examples of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating. Anorexia nervosa is a type of eating disorder in which people are so focused on their weight that they refuse to eat or eat as little as possible, bulimia nervosa is similar to anorexia except instead of eating so little people binge and then they force themselves to get seriously ill hoping that it will help reduce their weight. Binge eating may not seem as bad as other eating disorders, but it does the same harm, which is when people eat as much as they can whenever they can. There is no specific cause for eating disorders; the causes can vary from genetic factors to cultural pressures. Although a lot of research has been done to try to prove that some things cause an eating disorder in more people than others, nothing has been proven. One of the main causes of eating disorders is the constant pressure that family and friends place on teenagers these days to be perfect. in every way imaginable, including weight. In the current generation of teenagers they have so much pressure from all points of view, from trying to get all the grades, from getting into a good college, in sports and even in work. Many feel that they are losing control over all the things that happen in their life and try to control their diet in order to gain some control over their life. Parents can sometimes add to the heat by making jabs at their teenagers' physical appearance, whether jokingly or not. “Parents who overvalue physical appearance may unintentionally contribute to an eating disorder (ANRED).” There are some statesmen... middle of paper... that I haven't even thought about. Eating disorders stem from many different things but, as far as I know, they don't seem to stem from one main problem. The variety of causes of eating disorders helps people understand that adolescents face all kinds of pressures before reaching adulthood. It's terrifying to discover the effects that come with eating disorders. Works Cited "ANRED: What are the causes of eating disorders?" ANRED: What are the causes of eating disorders? Np, nd Web.
