Which came first, the chicken or the egg, and what came first, the name of the orange or the name of the color? Maybe the person who got to name everything just got lazy. How much wood could a woodchuck throw if a woodchuck could throw wood? How much juice could orange juice squeeze if orange juice could squeeze juice? Oranges are zesty cannonballs of goodness and sometimes that's all we see, when in reality they have a huge burst of health benefits that often go unrecognized. Everyone has heard the saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but have they? Have you ever heard the saying an orange, yes, it will help you live another day? Oranges, along with many other citrus fruits, contain D-limonene (Hezy). D-limonene has been shown to help prevent skin cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, mouth cancer, and colon (sun) cancer. This is most likely why breakfast cereal companies will add a glass of orange juice and say "part of this complete breakfast." “Due to its neutralizing effect on gastric acid and its support of normal peristalsis, it has also been used to relieve heartburn” (Sun). D-limonene is also used clinically to dissolve cholesterol-containing gallstones (Sun). Any good long-distance runner knows that the more red blood cells you have, the more oxygen can be transported to your muscles. “Oranges are rich in iron and vitamin B6, essential in the production of red blood cells (Perfect Form).” Other things like fiber, folate, and herperidine, also found in oranges, directly promote the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system (Hezy). Oranges contain folic acid. “Folic acid helps in proper brain development (Hezy).” However, this is not...the focus of the paper......whfoods.com. Network.
