Is it really beneficial to feed American children McDonald's food to save money? Are Americans really in that much of a hurry? Is the saying “We are what we eat” really true? Unfortunately it seems so. We all remember the study conducted by Morgan Spurlock in Super Size Me (2004), who ate McDonald's food for 30 days straight, which proved that fast food is extremely fattening as well as unhealthy. He is not an obese child, however he states the importance of an individual whether adult or child that what we eat matters. Childhood obesity isn't always a choice, it's the way they are raised, it's a lifestyle catapulted by those who make choices for them. The unknown author, who drew my visual piece of a child being fed at a fast food restaurant by his parents, portrays that the cause of childhood obesity is not attributed to children as they do not make their own choices. However, it is the result of their parents offering them unhealthy food. The child in the photo is overweight and is surrounded by unhealthy food. The author of this cartoon made the parents smaller than the child to reflect the error in their thinking as “narrow-minded”. As a result, parents instill bad habits in their children to the extent that it reflects their ideology of being the damaging blow behind obese American children. In the article "How American Kids Packed Up" by Jeffrey Kluger he highlights the facts that Americans love food, have many reasons to eat (e.g., holidays, birthdays, culture, etc.), and are definitely overeating. Furthermore, Kruger states that, “If there was a firewall against the fattening of American adults, it was American children” (227). Even though children's bodies... in the center of the paper... adult geometry and she challenges American adults to change the way they think: make healthy choices for their children. Additionally, obesity, in general, is highlighted in Spurlock's research on 30-day McDonald's food intake. The condition of his body after 30 days says it all! That fast food is unhealthy and disadvantageous for humans to ingest regularly. Americans need to stop gorging!
