Topic > Pros and cons of capital punishment - 979

The infliction of death as punishment is lawful; the death penalty. Capital punishment continues to be used in several countries despite controversy over its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent against serious crime. A death sentence can be carried out by one of many means, through electrocution, hanging, lethal injection, the gas chamber, and the firing squad. The debate about whether capital punishment is right or not is an emotional one. Some say it is necessary in some circumstances, others say it should never be used, opinions vary. When faced with a truly abhorrent and violent crime, people tend not to think rationally about ethical punishment. When serious crimes occur, people in public generally want to seek revenge.Cons1. Against human rights Although there is no exact definition of human rights, many of those who oppose capital punishment say that it is inhumane to sentence a criminal to death. Another aspect that human rights activists argue is that the State has no power either to give or take someone's life. Criminal or not, ultimately it is the question of a person's life. And this has always been an ongoing debate to which it is simply not possible to give a “correct answer”.2. The criminal does not suffer alone. Once proven guilty and sentenced to death, it is not only the criminal who suffers. His family also goes through difficult times when he is given capital punishment. It is not only the insults and media persecution that put family members to the test, but also the suffering of losing their loved one that overwhelms them. It is true that many innocent people are affected. It is terribly unjustified on every level for the family to suffer without...... middle of paper ......th.- Exodus 21:12 But if there is harm, then you will pay life for life, an eye for an eye , tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, wound for wound.- Exodus 21:23-25Thou shalt not kill.- Exodus 20:13The Bible has different ideas about capital punishment but I think the quote from John 8:7 sums it up. And as they continued to question him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." In conclusion, I think capital punishment should not exist. Because it is basically descending to the level of the criminal, most people have sinned and this should be recognized so you understand that supporting capital punishment may be slightly hypocritical. Jesus forgave those who killed him on the cross and the bystanders. So we too should follow his path and understand how to forgive.
