Heritage is and will always be part of life. Heritage can be divided into two categories. Genetic heritage and social heritage. Which one influences personality the most and which one doesn't? It is the thing that shapes people's personalities. The thing that makes them unique. Every single daily event has an effect on people. They can be small events, but they can also be larger, more significant events. Social heritage is about where the person grew up and what circumstances might shape them as a person. The genetic heritage, however, is completely opposite. It's what people are born with, that no one can change. It is something that, even if someone tries to resist, will always be part of the personality. The question is: which dominates? Social or genetic heritage. When looked at through a biographical lens, the story of “The Ugly Duckling” is also known as a story about the author himself, Hans Christian Andersen, and how he saw how genetic heritage dominated social heritage in his life. The issue between social and genetic heritage manifests itself in many different cases in many different ways, especially in “The Ugly Duckling.” One of the best known and most debatable cases is adoption. This is shown very clearly in “The Ugly Duckling”. When the duckling in the story was born "he was very big and ugly" (¶7) and "he (was) very large and not at all like the other" (¶7) little ducklings. When a child is given away at birth and is adopted into a totally new environment with new rules, challenges and a whole new life. This includes different parents and friends than perhaps would have arrived in another life. All this concerns social heritage. The parents, f...... middle of the paper ...... say it by writing: "I think he will grow up strong and able to take care of himself" (¶ 15). This is exactly what he himself did. He traveled around Europe, became famous and very rich. The moral of the story is also the moral of Andersen's life. It doesn't matter what the social inheritance and the surrounding environment, what matters is what the genetics transmit. What a person can really do. When looked at through a biographical lens, the story of "The Ugly Duckling" is also known as a story about the author himself, Andersen, and how he viewed genetic domination over social heritage in his country. life. Andersen came from a bad neighborhood, but he turned the boat around. His real swan came out and became famous all over the world. Even though social heritage has a great impact on people, it is never possible to completely deny what has been passed down from previous generations.
