Hi, I'm Jesse and I'm going to discuss the relationship between four topics that have a striking resemblance to each other. The first topic is McCarthyism, focusing on the Red Scare in the 1950s. The second is Saudi Arabia's war on witchcraft, which is what the name implies, a cross-regional hunt for anything witch-like. The third is the moral panic that occurred at the time especially in Christian nations. The fourth and final is The Salem Witch Trials, which was related to moral panic as both centered on the absurd hysteria among the populace. Although many at the time and even now considered these acts to be right, which may be the case as opinions differ from individual to individual and so on. I wish to oppose this view as what one group desires can be harmful to the other and such primal behavior is uncivilized on the part of the perpetrators. Many of you may not know about McCarthyism, basically McCarthyism was a time when a man named Joseph McCarthy caused a huge uproar of hysteria in the United States. Mass hysteria in the so-called “Land of the free”. The McCarthy-centered hysteria centered on his desire for a second term, leading him to make indignant claims that “more than 200 State Department employees were card-carrying members of the Communist Party.” These claims were never proven, but caused massive anti-communist sentiment to develop among the population. The nation at the time was facing a period known as “The Red Scare.” This was basically the fear of the nation's inhabitants that a vengeful Soviet Union would instill communism in the "Free World", which was also a sign of how people at the time were easily threatened by something that they themselves did not fully understand and which was fueled by intense propaganda....... middle of paper ......ng Salem.'. This shows how settlers of the time reverted to literal interpretations of the Bible and oppressed anyone they deemed a “witch doctor.” Then there is “the death by hanging of nineteen men and women.” Even though people were much more religious back then, it is still shocking how hysteria can take over a city and cause unprecedented oppression on a people with just one accusation. I myself have never been a victim of such hysteria and wish I never will, but it pains me so much that these acts of horrendous violence can happen because of morals and beliefs. Even when faced with a vast amount of information, some may not be willing to confront their hateful beliefs. I would like to add that different beliefs are great but in the end it is better to keep them to yourself and harm others for what you are led to believe, thanks.
