Death is a black abyss of nothingness. Death is greedy. Death will emerge from the ground and tear something up and bring it back down with it. Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet there are several characters who play vital roles in the events leading to the tragic death of Romeo and Juliet. Many of these characters include Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence, Friar John, Lord Capulet, and Romeo and Juliet's ancestors who started the feud. In my essay I will discuss how each named character played a role in the death of Romeo and Juliet. Several times during the play Romeo and Juliet almost committed suicide, but with the help of Friar Laurence and the Nurse, Romeo and Juliet's death was prolonged, but inevitable. Romeo and Juliet had to die at some point. Romeo played a role in his own death. The moment he killed Tybalt, his fate was sealed. He was lucky to have been banished by the prince, because at the beginning of the play the prince said that if there were any more fighting between the Capulets and the Montagues, they would be put to death. Romeo couldn't bear the thought of leaving his new wife. He went to a nearby town and when he heard the news that Juliet had died he couldn't bear it. He made a hasty decision to buy poison. Even when he kissed Juliet and her lips were warm he was so crazy that he didn't realize she was alive. If Romeo hadn't been so reckless, I think he and Juliet would have survived. If you really think about it, Romeo actually played a role in Juliet's death. Juliet's actions in the play killed her. There are many ways he could have stopped his death, which would have also saved Romeo. When Romeo was banished, his parents thought he was mourning the loss of his dear cousin...... middle of paper ......sideration instead of ordering her around. Finally, if Romeo and Juliet's ancestors hadn't started arguing in the first place the two lovers wouldn't have had to hide their feelings, their marriage and lie to their friends and family. The whole tragedy would have been avoided if Romeo and Juliet's ancestors had gotten along. In conclusion, I believe that not only one person is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. The people who played the most important roles in Romeo and Juliet's death were Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence, Friar John, Lord Capulet, and Romeo and Juliet's ancestors. The two characters who had the greatest influence in the death of Romeo and Juliet were themselves. If they had done things differently from the beginning of the play, their deaths would have been avoided. By reading the play Romeo and Juliet you will understand my reasoning.
