Everyone is called to the lifelong journey where minds are nourished and challenged with fundamental information that is essential to become someone in the community, in the country, even in the world and in it All it begins with that little mustard seed of education planted within us. To succeed and progress as a society, no one should be denied the right to education; it is inalienable. Opportunities in this regard should be available everywhere and should be afforded without question to those who have an immense desire to pursue academic achievement. The state of legality or clandestineness should not affect this because the right to education should never be limited. A law has been proposed in the United States to help Latin American high school students who are denied the right to go to college because they are undocumented. The Alien Minors Development, Relief, and Education Act, more commonly known as the DREAM Act, targets high school students and young adults who want to become legal citizens and pursue college education. However, certain terms and conditions must be met to be eligible. Some of these conditions include: must be under thirty-five years of age, must have lived in the United States for at least five years, and must have obtained a high school diploma. While the intentions of this law are valid, there are inconsistencies with it. An example would be that the DREAM Act would provide greater incentives for illegal immigration. It is estimated that “1.3 million illegal aliens will be eligible for DREAM Act amnesty.” (Numbersusa) if exceeded.
