Shock, panic and fear filled my mind as I lay on my side, crushed between the cold, soft earth and the warm, shiny metal of the car pressed into the lower half that let go of my body with a monster strength. It didn't hurt; my body was numb. All I could feel was the mass of the car's hood pressing my hips further and further into the ground. My lungs felt closed and no air was coming in or out. My mind was confused. What had just happened? In the distance, on that cursed road, I could see the cars passing by completely unaware of what had happened, of how I felt. I tried to scream, but my voice was unheard… The day had started like any other. The third irritating buzz of my alarm woke me. I fell out of bed and got into the shower, it was the start of a normal morning, or so I thought, I showered and got into my clothes - all of this taking longer than normal. It's not a surprise. I was late, I jumped into my sister's fancy car and we drove to school perfectly late. With music blaring, voices singing, talking and screaming, it was another typical trip to school with my crazy sister. Leaving late that morning, my sister and I were in a hurry, with my sister putting her foot on the accelerator - going a little too fast, we started down the first street towards our school. This road was very narrow and quite hilly with shrubs, dirt and trees on both sides. As we cracked the top of one of the small blind hills, in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. My sister, without thinking twice, turned the steering wheel to the left and then to the right again to try to avoid the dear one. Nothing serious, but it was going too fast. The car swerved left again, right again, left, every time... halfway down the page... except for a few spots here and there. I was relieved that he was okay. I don't know what I would have done if he had a serious injury. Looking back I was worried about being able to walk again, the unbearable pain seemed like it would be a permanent problem. Around 4am that day a metal plate was placed on my hip bone to keep it in a stable place until the healing process was complete. Now I understand how precious life is and how much it can take away from you in every single moment. A small accident can cause serious injury or even death. My sister and I are so lucky to be alive. The accident probably wouldn't have happened if we had left on time, and it's strange to think that a dead animal almost took our life. I will never forget that moment when I was lying on that dusty, rugged terrain waiting to see if I would survive. or die.
