Founded by Bruce D. Henderson in Boston, Massachusetts in 1963 as a management consulting division serving the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company; The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is now a global management consulting firm that is the world's leading consultant on business strategy (BGG, 2014). With at least two offices on every continent, BCG is a privately held company serving the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Some of the areas in which BCG provides its services are, but not limited to, post-merger integration, transformation, information technology strategy, and managing in a two-speed economy (Bloomsberg, 2014). This year, The Boston Consulting Group earned the honor of being ranked #3 on the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list, ranking just behind Google and SAS. MOTIVATIONAL TOOLS AND STRATEGIES As human beings it is difficult for us to efficiently conduct a task that is not of our interest. While most, if not all, of us want to be successful in our endeavors, this is often difficult when the task is something we rarely worry about. This is where the concept of motivation comes into play. According to the class textbook, motivation is defined as "The processes that account for the intensity, direction, and persistence of an individual's effort toward achieving a goal." (Robbins & Judge, 2013, p. 202). Motivation plays an important role in the intensity and efficiency with which an employee performs a task. Boston Consulting Group moved from fourth place in 2013 to third this year on CNN Money's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list. A vital contribution to BCG's success can be attributed to employee motivation. Most success… halfway there… on the other hand involves things like experimentation and learning. To gain sustainable advantage through recursion, you need to use a four-component process that involves; Variation, Selection, Amplification and Modulation. It's like a cycle and each of the components only works after the other is satisfied. For an adaptive strategy to be disciplined and work successfully, companies must make the right choices in each of the components of the VSAM cycle (Reeves & Deimler & Morieux & Nicol, 2010). For any company that has an unstable environment, the adaptive strategy advantage is what best assists in improvement processes. One reason for this is that in an adaptive advantage there are both different forms of operation, and different ways of thinking about useful strategies (Reeves & Deimler & Morieux & Nicol, 2010).
