In a recent survey all the teenagers involved said they felt stress coming from some area of their lives. Stress in a teenager's life can come from many different places and lead to serious and harmful effects. The effects of stress on teens can lead to serious long-term consequences from school, work, and family, but there are many ways to help teens deal with stress. For 16-year-old Abby, navigating school, work and home life isn't as easy as it is for others. He lives in a family with his father who is a single parent and his two younger brothers. He takes care of his younger brothers most of the time while his father works the night shift. Every day Abby experiences many different things that make her feel stressed. Abby's alarm goes off at 5:45, she struggles to drag herself out of bed still exhausted from yesterday's responsibilities. He jumps in the shower and gets ready for the day. Then he wakes up his two younger brothers, cooks them eggs and toast for breakfast while they get ready and prepares lunch for them. He gets them out the door and takes them to school. Once she gets to school she starts to feel more pressure. As each class progresses and she discovers homework for the evening, her stress begins to grow. He thinks about how he will get everything done before going to work knowing that he has to take care of his siblings. She tries to make many friends but finds herself much more mature than most other children. After school he picks up his siblings and takes them home. She starts her homework but is constantly interrupted by her brothers' arguments. Around 4.30pm he prepares dinner, doing some homework in every free second he has. It makes kids sit to... middle of paper... become healthier than kids who don't (Africa News Service). If you're a parent of a child who gets stressed easily, slow everything down. Take your time while doing things. “You may have gotten used to running around, but your child needs more time to adjust to changes and to take things at his own pace.” (Petty) Another way parents can help their stressed children is to let them know they are doing a good job. Parents should show their children that they are proud and ensure their confidence. Always give them your affection and give them simple advice that is the best way. (Petty) Remember that everyone is stressed. Stress on adolescents from very different areas of their lives has major effects. We can help teenagers by using the strategies expressed in this article.
