Jealousy is a ubiquitous emotion. It can lead people to commit crazy acts. In Othello, a work by William Shakespeare, the protagonist ends up killing his wife because he is suspected of infidelity. While this is a heinous crime, Othello was simply a pawn in a larger plan. Therefore, he should be forgiven. Othello is a naive fool. Othello's problems lead him to kill Desdemona. He has insecurity problems with himself. At the beginning of the play, Othello is confident. Iago often speaks of Othello in a humble manner. He even calls him an "old black ram" and describes him as "mocking your white sheep" (1.1.9) when he wakes Brabantio with the news of Desdemona's marriage to Othello. Othello begins to degrade himself by saying "I am rude in speaking" (1.3.96). This loss of trust affects his relationship with Desdemona, setting the stage for her subsequent death.
