Who would you trust with your new pet, vet or hobbyist? Coming into contact with the vast amount of information on the Internet, I decided to find out for myself. I will be researching the basic care of the "Axolotl", an aquatic salamander.. In my exploration, I came across two separate websites on the same topic regarding amphibians. The authors of both sites are individually considered to be at the forefront of their field of care. Our authors are Dr. Lianne McLeod, a veterinarian, and John Clare, a hobbyist/breeder. I will relate both and compare. When it comes to directly caring for an unusual pet, I believe it is best to turn to a qualified expert. The first website I found is "The Reptile Channel". This website is made up of articles from their magazine of the same name. The author of the TRC article (and many others on the site) is John Clare. Clare is the author of Axolotl.org and the founder of Caudata.org and FrogForum.net. Clare has no special qualifications regarding this topic other than personal experience. He is an expert in several issues, including disease and modified environments, but does not have a degree in related topics. The sites he moderates are open forums for discussion and support of axolotls and other amphibians. Most discussions are based on personal experience, which anyone can participate in or contribute to on the Internet. I believe this information is subjective, as answers vary between personal opinions and experiences and not scientific facts. His articles are aimed at a general audience, ranging from children to adults, with words that anyone can understand. The second website I came across is a subcategory of "About.com", specific to exotic... middle of paper ......about and specific to axolotl care. Clare's websites provide much more information on various topics (due to frequent contributions from the public), but the information is inconsistent and sometimes unreliable. Both websites manage to keep your interest; however a simple layout works better in the long run. It may not be the “prettiest” article, but the quality of the information is superior. I believe the best choice is the source with the most credibility and expertise. In this case it would be the information provided by Dr. McLeod.Sources CitedWeb - http://www.reptilechannel.com/care-sheets/axolotl.aspxhttp://www.caudata.org/Author – John Clare~Web - http ://exoticpets.about.com/cs/amphibians/a/axolotls.htmhttp://exoticpets.about.com/bio/Lianne-McLeod-DVM-2931.htmAuthor – Lianne McLeod DVM
