It has been well documented that women in general have a longer lifespan than men. In the past, it was believed that women led a healthier lifestyle than men; I believe this is true to a certain extent. Women tend not to work in dangerous environments and historically tend not to smoke as much. Based on some research I have seen, a man or woman's lifestyle does not sum up the individual's total life expectancy. For the most part I believe that the availability of modern medicine and the person's level of education will be directly linked to outcomes. Basically if the person is moderately educated and has access to modern medicine and actually uses it, they can expect to prolong their life. These are not the only factors though; obviously genetics can also play an important role in a person's life expectancy. People seem to understand this more and are moving towards a pre-emptive strike when dealing with these types of issues. Whether women have outlived men over the years may be changing.
