Nurses often face ethical dilemmas in their practices. Respecting the patient's belief or choice, whether we believe it is right or wrong, is a duty. Jehovah's Witness (JW) patients refuse blood transfusions and their lives may be in danger, but this is their right to choose and nurses must respect it. Patients decide not to undergo life-saving surgery or chemotherapy, which is their personal decision. We, as nurses, can educate and inform, but ultimately it is the patient's right to refuse or accept treatment. The writer believes that when good morals and good character are present, it is possible to make the best ethical decisions possible. These decisions are not necessarily right or wrong, but are the best choices for the patient and their care based on the patient's right to what they receive
