Although marijuana is banned in many countries, it is the most used drug in the world. It has users of all ages, young and old, men and women. This has raised questions about the need to legalize it. Critics argue that marijuana causes a great deal of physical harm to users and can even cause death. What these critics don't explain is why other, more harmful drugs like tobacco and alcohol have been legalized despite their destructive nature. Realistically, the reason why many people continue to use marijuana is because of its benefits to the human body, these benefits are so many. Marijuana helps the body in many ways; these are tested and proven medicinal purposes. Many medical experts have done extensive testing to determine the effects marijuana has on humans. In most cases the results have been positive; positive as it supports the use of marijuana; this is because they find that the drug has more advantages than disadvantages for the human body. These benefits include; to relieve joint pain, to cure some diseases, marijuana can help revive the world economy, the responsible use of marijuana over time helps to overcome some medical conditions, therefore it is defined as natural medicine. All these are just some of the reasons why marijuana should be legalized (David, 2012 pp 25). Marijuana is a vital drug in the treatment of certain diseases. In the article Cannabinoids in Clinical Practice, Williamson explains how marijuana is used by doctors to treat certain diseases; states that the drug is vital in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, a condition involving muscle pain, small doses of cannabis are administered to relieve tremor. This article explains... middle of paper... has been legalized. Let's look at it this way: how many people have we seen die from marijuana use and how many people have we seen die from other legal drugs like tobacco and alcohol. It is evident that more people died in the second case than in the first, thus a clear indication that cannabis is less harmful than some of the already legal drugs. Marijuana should therefore be legalized on the basis that other, more harmful drugs are legal. All of the above facts and statements support that cannabis should be legalized because its economic and medicinal values subdue its harmful attributes, thus it is more of a benefit than a harm. The fact that some countries and states in the United States have legalized marijuana explains that many people are starting to accept the use of marijuana. Marijuana should therefore be legalized (Kleiman, M. 2012 pp 78).
