Nowadays we can see that young children are very curious to find the reason behind every event. They are self-motivated to learn the “hows” and “whys” of the world. It can be said that children are almost like scientists as they gather evidence by examining and experimenting with the world. Children are generally involved in the process of formulating hypotheses; they are also engaged in evaluating statistical data and releasing prior beliefs when presented with other, stronger evidence. They also do all this while looking for their toys, arranging blocks randomly, or playing with toys with their friends. Children also show extraordinary psychological intuition by observing other people's actions and can even determine underlying enthusiasm, desires, and preferences (Kushnir & Wellman, 2010). During the primary school years, children grow and learn in many different ways. Children not only grow physically but also develop socially, emotionally/psychologically and cognitively. This resource basically compares the three dimensions of child development, namely social, emotional and cognitive. Theory of Learning and Social Development Children generally learn by watching others. It is basically known as the process of observational learning. Children begin to learn by observing people around them behaving in different ways (Bandura, 1977). The same thing is illustrated twice in the resource. Once, when other children begin to bully Ben, other children, observing their behaviors, begin to bully Ben. Secondly, when Ben had a dream in which he saw a boy being bullied by others, but that boy went ahead and complained to his teacher. According to the social theory of learning and development, the... middle of paper... ..ge, parenting8. Integrity vs Despair Mature Age 50+, Old Age, GrandparentsWith the help of Erickson's theory, it is understood that children of Ben's age should learn to take initiative when required and also learn about the types of behavior that are not allowed. This theory also teaches us that a delicate balance should be maintained between being tolerant and preventive (Charlesworth R., 2013). The same scenario is also depicted in the resource where Ben took the initiative at the appropriate time to tell his teacher about the other children mistreating him. Another resource-related theory is the cognitive theory of learning and development. Cognitive theory of learning and development With the help of the theory of cognitive development the child discovers the world around him. This also includes imagination, thinking, memorization and reasoning.
