Once the meeting was over, people stopped and talked and seemed happier after the meeting. As I was leaving the meeting, I noticed there was a box that said “Cash Donations,” so I reached into my bag and put $5.00 in the box. This made me feel good knowing that the donations go directly to the groups' needs. I also noticed there were some pamphlets on a table, so I grabbed one titled “This is AA, an Introduction to the AA Recovery Program.” After leaving the meeting, I realized that the road to sobriety is not easy and requires a lot of hard work and honesty. When an alcoholic realizes and admits that he has a problem, he will realize that his way of life will change. However, some may not realize how these impacts will affect them until they realize their actions. Over time, an individual will realize that his or her life of alcohol addiction has impacted his or her family as well. Getting sober can take a toll on a person physically and emotionally because the daily ritual of consuming alcohol is gone and an individual must adapt to life without alcohol. It is important for an individual to recognize and rely on a spiritual connection. When an individual sticks to the twelve-step program, it allows them to see how alcohol has affected their life and take responsibility for their negative behavior. When an individual cleans up and continues to stay sober with the support of AA and the twelve-step program, their chances of achieving long-term sobriety
