Effects such as depression, feelings of insecurity, suicide and many more are all results due to women's unrealistic expectations of themselves. Technology has become so evident in society that a huge percentage of women own a smartphone or use social media in some way. A Neilson survey shows that “70% of teens ages 13-17 now use smartphones, and 79% of young adults ages 18-24 own a smartphone” (Kerr). Rarely do you meet a girl who doesn't even have a smartphone or access to some kind of social media. It's a constant battle to live up to the appearance expectations these sites place on women. These are unnecessary pressures that women should never have to worry about. A girl should never be so insecure that she feels the need to commit suicide based on what society deems beautiful. This just goes to show the dark world we live in. I personally believe that no one should ever feel less than themselves based on what someone else might do.
