Today every person must complete at least two years of history in order to pass high school. Many people, including myself, ask the question, “Why do we need to take history?” Well, the answer many of us get is, “So that history doesn't repeat itself.” The real question is: does history repeat itself? History repeated itself over and over again. An example of this would be the genocide that occurred in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, almost 88 years later, another genocide occurred in Darfur in 2003. These two events are similar and different in ways, but they are still proof that history in fact it repeats itself. For 3,000 years Armenians have lived peacefully in their homeland. They became the first nation in the world to make Christianity its state religion. During the 11th century the Ottoman Turks struggled to invade many regions. Armenia was one of those regions invaded by the Ottomans. The main religion of the Ottomans was Islam, the leaders were Muslims and therefore the people had to be Muslims too.
