War has dramatic effects on countries. During the Renaissance there were many wars for territories, for religions and for political reasons. These wars created a new feeling of nationalism and gave power to the monarchy in England and France. Over time, from 1337 to 1459, there were many technological advances that were the result of wars. One of the wars that had the greatest effect was the Hundred Years' War. There were many useful advances during the war. For example, gunpowder, artillery, and the longbow were great achievements of the war. Longbows were an English invention so that the soldier would have a longer range. Longbows were better than the crossbow because the longbow could shoot up to 270 yards and men could shoot up to more than 10 bows per minute. Training began at 14, however the English soldier did not go to war until the age of 21. When they fired the British had about five minutes to use their arrows to defend their land. Longbows gave England an advantage when fighting the French. The use of artillery changed warfare especially for France, the built cannons weighed around 3 tons and the stone cannonballs weighed around 300 pounds. It took many men just to make one of these cannons. Hand cannons were made because it would be easier to kill the enemy at home. The hand cannon had a small piece of metal with a wooden rod for the recoil of the mini cannon. When gunpowder was reduced it would still be a powerful weapon. Artillery was an important weapon on the battlefield, because it killed many men when fired. The longbow was first introduced at the Battle of Crecy, 26 August 1346. France had 30,000 to 40,000 armed men with many men and knights armed with w. ..... middle of paper ......nting could help because it could be used to kill a silent prayer. People do it as a sport to enjoy shooting at a target. Many men like to reenact what happens in war, so they use longbows to fight each other. Cannons are very commonly used for warfare, for example the Revolutionary War, Civil War, War of 1812, World War I and World War II are all good examples of when cannons were used at later times in history as we know it . Even today, cannons are present in every existing army, which means that over the years cannons have become more and more powerful. To conclude, technology was advancing over time for better warfare strategy. The longbow was long one of the best ranged hand weapons of the time. Cannons were first used in the Hundred Years' War and are still being improved in and out of war today. For this reason the world changes over time when new technologies are born.
