Twilight Saga: New Moon and the Development of Adolescence“I had never thought much about how I would die, but dying in the presence of someone I loved would be a good way to go". Anyone who is a true Twihard knows that it is from the beginning of the twilight that Bella expresses her feelings. Throughout the film series we see Bella grow and form friendships with many different types of people. For example Bella's relationship with Jacob, throughout the film we see each of them grow and discover things about each other In this article I will discuss the psychological theme of adolescent development and friendships, relating them to Twilight: New Moon The new moon begins on the 18th birthday by Bella. Bella wakes up from a dream in which she sees herself as an old woman. She expresses her anger at the aging of her boyfriend Edward Cullen, a vampire who stopped physically aging at 17. As we know Bella hates surprises and without warning Edward and his family threw a birthday party. While unwrapping a present Bella cuts her finger and we see Jasper, Edwards' brother, charging at her in an attempt to kill her. Edward then realizes that he and his family pose a threat to Bella, so he ends their relationship and the Cullens leave Forks Washington. Edwards' departure leaves Bella heartbroken and depressed for months. Leaving a void in her life, her father decides to send Bella to her mother but Bella refuses and starts spending time with her friends again. While watching a movie with her friend Bella she sees a group of motorcyclists and decides to approach them. When she does, she is reminded that Edward stops her and she begins taking part in thrill-seeking activities. This is where Bella begins her r... middle of the card... they have a lot in common. Both subjects experienced difficulties along their path to individuation. Both addressed the impact of social, political, and gender forces of oppression on individuals. Both are also inherently interdisciplinary, meaning combining two or more fields. Psychology and pop culture are ultimately and sincerely interested in people. As we can see, pop culture and psychology are somewhat intertwined. When we watch films and read books we can say that aspects of psychology are present. With psychology we learn about the mind and behavior of human beings, trying to understand why people do what they do. With pop culture we watch and read about different types of people and observe their behaviors. With my topics I feel like the two topics went very well together. Both had many points that could explain each other.
