Topic > Women change the view of the military - 827

The military has mostly been dominated by men; women also had a history of military success. For example, during World War II, women served primarily as nurses (Manila Bulletin). Women came far from being nurses during World War II to being able to fill any position. Some women can find themselves in almost any position. Now women find themselves on the front lines. Additionally, during World War II, women who were nurses at Pearl Harbor found themselves in a combat situation where they had to engage and kill the enemy (Manilla Bulletin). The increase in women in the military has impacted the military by filling different job roles, expanding military positions, and increasing the number of sexual assaults. The first reason why women influence the military is their role. Women in combat served as long as men and for many years were not treated the same as men. For example, during World War II men had full military status, but women were reduced to 2% full military status (global issues). Women in the past were not allowed to be on the front lines and received no encouragement from the government. However, in 1973, women were encouraged to join the army and finally gained the same respect and status as men (Manilla Bulletin). Since women did not have the same benefits as men, the military changed the rule that gave women the same opportunities as men. However, the situation quickly changed as the military saw more and more women coming face to face with combat (New York Time). Additionally, women were denied their combat experience, but the law changed so they could not be injured. (New York Times). Over the years, the military found that women were qualified to hold... middle of paper... positions and various amounts of sexual assault.
