The Cold War was a period between 1947 and 1991 that caused tensions between the East (USSR) and the West (USA). As a result, many events occurred during this period that affected numerous countries. Some significant events include: the Korean War (1950-1953), the ANZUS Treaty (1951), and SEATO (1954). After the end of the World War, Korea was divided into two parts, South Korea and North Korea. The parties in these two countries had different ideologies. South Korea was a capitalist and North Korea was a communist. When North Korea crossed the border (38th parallel) and entered the South Korean side, the first attack of the Cold War occurred. Australia wanted to have the United States as a military ally as it was overtaking Britain. At the start of the war, Australia sent troops from the 3rd RAR Battalion to strengthen (capitalist) South Korea.
