I was placed in a school that lived up to my educational standards, surrounded by students who were no better or worse than me. However, Gatto might disagree by referring to point four of Ingli's breakdown of the "actual purpose" of the school system: "... children must be sorted by role and trained only to the extent that their destination in the machine deserves social - and not just one". take it a step further. So much for making kids their personal best” (3). I have to disagree with the author's point of view on this statement because it was the perfect environment for me to rebuild my confidence in my educational abilities. Furthermore, as I excelled in my classes, my teachers saw my abilities and promoted me to a higher level of education. If I had not been placed in this educational environment, I am pretty sure it would not have reignited my desire to pursue higher education, to be my personal best, and to allow myself to dream.
