Introduction As one of the most famous directors in Hollywood, Christopher Nolan was known for his complex plot and non-linear film structure. His most famous work including The Prestige (2006), Inception (2010), Batman series (2005, 2008, 2012), many of his works have been nominated by numerous awards. This article mainly analyzes two famous film posters of his works, The Dark Knight (2008) and Inception (2010). Semiotics, known as the science of signification, was first originated by Ferdinand de Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce, applying semiotic analysis in this paper; we will introduce the theory of semiotics and review its history in general. Semiotics is the interpretation of meaning, based on Saussure's semiological approach; focused primarily on the structural aspects of linguistics, while Peirce was more focused on the logical dimensions of science. In general, semiotics is a study of signs. According to Gordon, he defined the sign as “Everything that tells us about something other than itself” (Gordon, 1996:14). A sign is a representation of an object or a deep meaning implied behind the object. Saussure developed the principle of semiotics applied to language, he also elaborates the relationship of the sign with the following formula: “signifier + signified=sign” Based on Saussure's notion, signifier is the sign that carries the meaning, including signs on paper and the sound in the air. Meaning is a mental concept of meaning, that people who have the same cultural background can share the same language. The sign embraces both of them, which makes the sign have a broader use. Peirce's idea of semiotics is an account of signification, representation, reference and meaning... in the center of the paper... Furthermore, using semiotic theory to analyze a movie poster will be a great challenge, because a movie poster a film is not like a film, a film poster is a propaganda tool; to analyze the poster he was more likely to analyze the target market and audience of the film. Examples like "The Dark Knight" are targeting audiences interested in superhero stories, while "Incipiton" will appeal to audiences who love science films and Leonardo DiCaprio. Both film posters reflected the style of the director, Christopher Nolan, as newspapers wrote. mentioned, the movie poster will keep the same style as the movie, "The Dark Knight" has a selection of dark colors while "Inception" has brighter colors, but both have a mysterious atmosphere. The audience will believe the scene before their eyes, in this case both posters of the film manage to arouse the curiosity of the audience.
