As ancient Greek mythology began to evolve, the Age of Gods and Mortals had created such an epic beginning around which the stories revolved. The Greeks considered mythology to be a part of their history. They used myth to explain natural phenomena, cultural variations, traditional beliefs, and friendships. Greece had been defined primarily by its many accounts of various wars and battles, as well as its incredible architecture, but nothing had defined Greece better than the vast majority of perplexing myths and legends (Hamilton. 16). Such examples would be the Iliad and the Odyssey as they are epic poems that describe extremely important Greek events. Examining the topic of Greek myths and legends, one can see that the age of gods and mortals, theories of origin and the Greek conception of philosophy are very evident in showing that Greek society had evolved around these three areas. it was the time when the gods lived alone and encountered numerous human interferences. Gods and mortals had begun to engage in relationships even though it was forbidden. There have been many love stories involving a god or goddess and a human, thus giving rise to demigod descendants. This was part of the early days of the world where societies interacted much more than in later times. This was the age in which heroes had reigned. The gods during this era had disobeyed the rule of having intercourse with mortals. Zeus had forbidden interaction between all gods, goddesses, and mortals. As they always ended with an unhappy ending due to the fact that the gods had to be constantly called back to Olympus. As a result, too many demigod children were born, giving rise to a varied offspring with little relatedness... middle of paper...all myths and legends were questioned for their reality, for lack of sufficient evidence and for this reason many people had stopped following these ancient stories and the level of interest in them had waned. After the discoveries of the Trojan War, this logic had changed and reversed, bringing people together once again in Greek history. For the ancient Greeks, mythology was at the center of everyday life and highly regarded as part of their history. The word “myth” comes from the Greek word “mythos” meaning “speech” and later known as “fable” or “legend”. (Myth. 2). This shows how the age of gods and mortals, theories of origin and the Greek conception of philosophy are very evident in demonstrating that Greek society had evolved around folklore and storytelling which had helped shape their society in believe in the gods for their security and stability..
