I also had this question in mind when I heard about the meeting of young economist students for the first time, during my first year of university course at the Department of Economics, Jadavpur University. Having been associated with YESM for two editions now and based on meticulous reasoning and economic and logical knowledge as well as on practical experiences in many life situations, I have gathered over the years a very certain fact that I have realised: -It is not always thanks to one's academic superiority or leadership ability or the strength of one's "contacts", one can COMPLETELY make a substantial difference in one's own life, not to mention that of a society, a country or those who think big, - in well-being of the world. I have always believed that although these factors have little importance in the early and middle stages, but they are more of a channel, a channel through which the main engine will drive our future and consequently the future of the society, the country and that of the world ( if one is willing to do so). That main driver in my opinion is our "inhibited application of the KNOWLEDGE we have and will acquire". YESM primarily aspires to foster this same thought process among the students it serves, - an attempt to ignite the minds of the future, for the future! Coming to the theme of YESM 2012, RETHINKING CAPITALISM, YESM seeks to delve into the more practical world of today, stepping outside the realm of hypotheses and perfect models. The Nobel Prize winner Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965), when asked in an interview: "What's wrong with men today?", somewhat saddened, replied: - "Men don't think". Today's students study with a secure future in mind. A search... in the middle of the paper... a price scale. Let us use our most precious asset first instead of blindly following what has generally been blindly followed. Instead of always focusing on the COMPETENCE between us, let's focus on CREATING.YESM is to create a platform where the assimilation of all these thoughts and thought processes will take place, where the minds of the future will always want to know more and more, discuss problems with genuine knowledge and last but not least, in fact the most important, apply that knowledge and your conscience in the right direction. And if YESM succeeds in doing what it was designed to do, I am sure that this seminar, today and in the years to come, will be the reason, however small it is, - FOR A BETTER TOMORROW! “Always do what is right, it will reward half of humanity and will amaze the other!” –Mark Twain
