I learned a lot of new things in the English 1301 course this semester. I took this course last year but had to drop it because I didn't have a professor to help me explained the work. And I really didn't understand what I was doing. At first I was afraid to take this course. During my high school years I was not a good writer. I thought this composition class would be difficult since I sometimes thought it was difficult in high school. My writing experience has been positive and sometimes negative. This semester in composition class I had many strengths and weaknesses in my writing. These strengths and weaknesses are what helped me learn the mistakes I was making while writing essays this semester. My first writing pain point was deciding what to write about. I had to read the essay topic over and over again to understand what it was asking. I would worry about not understanding the topic correctly. While writing the essay I was afraid of going off topic and writing about something else that I shouldn't be writing about. Another thing that would happen to me was that suddenly my mind would go blank and I wouldn't be able to think of what else I could write. The essay I enjoyed writing the most this semester was the second essay. I enjoyed creating my own planet and seeing how my alien had a mission with all the commercials I saw on TV. The hardest essay I wrote this semester was the fourth and final essay. I got confused while writing the body paragraphs. This weakness in writing has affected my life by showing me that I have difficulty thinking about how I could write my essays. I think I should start reading books and maybe I could get some ideas from those books. Another weakness I had was execution and comma splicing errors. I had this problem because…half of the paper…something I had no problem with, but if I had a problem I would have learned from the lesson we had. I've never been a person who liked writing essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays, especially because I was learning new things as I wrote them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are to not wait until the last three or four days before I turn in my essay to start doing it. Another thing I'll do is if I forget how to do something or some rule in the common mistakes I've made, I'll go back to all the lessons I've printed out for reference. I think those will help me assign. And one last thing I'll do to improve my writing is try my best not to mix up all those words I've mixed up. I will do my best to learn every word and its rule of where it goes so I don't have the same mistakes I had this semester.
