In government, the different branches check and balance their powers. The legislative branch makes laws, the executive branch passes laws, and the judicial branch enforces the law. This system has worked for hundreds of years and, once again, guarantees the protection of citizens' rights. We can connect this to parenting; a child may ask mom a question and mom can simply say "ask your dad" or a dad can accept a child's request and say "make sure your mom agrees" to check and balance his decision. Coming back, the social contract is an ideology developed centuries ago. This contract is still very important in today's society. When we are born and declared a “citizen of the United States” our rights are automatically protected by the government.
