In this essay I will discuss the issue of migration to New York from several points of view. New York City's foreign-born population is very high. Between 1970 and 2008, the number of non-native New Yorkers doubled to 3 million, while the native-born population declined by more than 1 million (“New York's immigrant population is growing”) WE NEED TO EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS HAPPENING The role of Immigrants in New York's Economy It is well known that people are able to find work in New York. This affects the arrival of many immigrants there. Although immigrants work in low-wage jobs, they are also able to find high-wage jobs. Foreign-born workers in the city made up 100% of CHEMICAL ENGINEERS, 71% of biomedical and agricultural engineers, 40% of accountants and auditors, 27% of CEOs and legislators, and 21% of elementary and middle school teachers (“The Role of Immigrants in New York City's Economy”).
