According to Lisa Shock, a working medical assistant, "Being a medical assistant has allowed me to do everything I've ever wanted to do in medicine." Medical assistants can do more than a nurse, but not quite as much as a doctor. Their work is welcome in many places. Generally, a medical assistant is paid quite well for their work. The medical field is very interesting. Physician assistants (PAs) perform many duties and work in various medically influenced settings. PAs can prescribe medications but may need prior advice from a doctor. They can provide care for broken bones and administer vaccinations. The PA must also educate patients and family members about how to care for a condition that affects them or members of their families, such as an asthmatic child (“Physician Assistants.” United States). Performing laboratory tests and taking blood samples are also part of the PA's job duties. They must record the patient's medical history.
