Topic > What I Learned Writing 101 - 954

I always knew that writing wasn't my strong point. Going into writing 101 in September I was very scared. I knew that expectations would be very high for this course; so it was going to be harder than any other writing course I had taken before. Writing was a nightmare for me at first, but thanks to the assistance of Professor Smart and my tutors, I have drastically improved my writing skills and, as a result, I am now a better writer. Over the course of four months I learned a lot. There were some obstacles during the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It's hard to believe that my writing 101 journey is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this course has helped me gain confidence in my writing that will help me throughout my college life. Writing can be very frustrating; putting your ideas on paper so that others can grasp the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101 I learned how to formulate good arguable theses and also how to validate articles that have to do with my topic. The most important element of an article is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and explains what the essay is about. Having a well-structured thesis along with evidence to support that thesis are the main ingredients of a well-written essay. I also learned how important it is to research an author's background to ensure their credibility. This is a very important step in writing because today we can find information on a topic that is not valid. By researching the author, we can see if he is an expert in the field and therefore this would make his information more credible. There is a... middle of the paper... I have improved this area over the course of the semester. I am at the milestone of my writing, however, with hard work and determination I will improve as a writer throughout my college years. While I know there is still a lot to improve in my writing, I feel like I've made great strides for my first semester. I grew up as a writer and believe I have the potential to become a great writer. During my many years here at the College of New Rochelle, I will continue to work hard so that during my senior year here at college I can look back on my freshman year writings to see my improvements. Writing 101 built my confidence and made me a better writer today. I will bring this confidence along with determination into my Writing 102 class and hope that the professor continues the modeling process started by Professor smart.
