The idea of ​​chivalry is extremely precious to people, that even everything a knight wore symbolized something precious or unique. In other words, chivalry was not a game. During the Middle Ages and Renaissance chivalry, courtly love and romance played a dramatic role in literature and society along with the influence of Chaucer, Malory and Shakespeare's work. Chivalry and romance are two words and ideas used in literature quite often. It is important to understand them and be aware, which leads to the question. What is chivalry? An exact definition of chivalry can be found in the dictionary: "the sum of a knight's ideal qualifications, including courtesy, generosity, valor and dexterity in arms" (dictionary). It means that chivalry is a way of behaving in the most ideal and formal way with certain qualifications such as: respect, generosity, courage and skill. Although the term chivalry has numerous similar definitions; to some extent this definition is by far the most precise, but there is more. The term chivalry has its historical context. The word chivalry was not chosen or invented automatically, but was taken from other words. For starters, the cavalry came from France. It comes from the French word "chevalier" which means... middle of the card... each knight needed to show his leadership because he was the ideal example of how people should act. When knights went into battle or war they had a sign or insignia that identified the knight (). Those knights who carried banners during the war represented faith in their lord and the land (). Their shields are a reminder of the knights goal which is to protect his people and be a leader (). The leg plates worn by knights not only protected their feet, but certainly represented that the knight would face difficulties on his journey (). A knight received a piece of land as a reward from his lord (). The hauberk worn by knights resembles a castle or fortress (). The spear represented the truth that preceded falsehood and the tip signified strength (). Knights were very idealized and had high values, which is why people admired them back then.
