Have you ever imagined what could have happened in Australia's past? Aboriginal Australians are native to Australia and have lived there for many years. Aboriginal people roamed Australia for years, a free-flowing land, developing many customs and aspects of an interesting culture: language, body paint, beliefs, laws, music, hunting and art. Australian Aborigines are the natives of Australia. They roamed the earth for 40,000 years. Indigenous Aboriginal people lived as nomads, hunter-gatherers and “with a heavy dependence on the land and their agriculture for survival (Ellie Crystal)”. The Aboriginal way of life was disrupted when Britain sent convicts to Australia. Australian Aboriginal tribes have different ways of communicating. Most Aboriginal people can speak five different languages. Languages vary according to places and tribes. Aboriginal words are interspersed with the Australian English language. Some words are added to the Australian vocabulary (slang). Today the Aboriginal language is spoken primarily in a form of English; it is spoken in Standard Australian English (SAE). A tradition of the Australian Aborigines is body painting; a form of body art. Body painting is an ancient tradition passed down from generation to generation. It is worn especially on the occasion of religious ceremonies and celebrations. Body art varies between different tribes and geographic locations. The decorations on the body have distinct meanings, meanings and shapes. Art includes symbols and drawings and is sometimes used to tell stories. Aboriginal culture uses body painting heavily and explains things about each person: thought process, lifestyle and feelings.
