When deciding whether becoming a manager is right for you, you should carefully consider the qualities needed to become one. One should decide whether he possesses the necessary characteristics to be a manager. If he or she finds that there is a deficiency in one of the traits, then he or she needs to see how it can be improved and whether it can be improved at all. I was asked to do just that in my Management and Organizational Behavior course. I will look at my weaknesses and how I can improve them and I will look at my strengths that I already have and how they will help me in the business world. I will first discuss my weaknesses that I found during my research. I took the “Assess Your Global Management Potential” test on page 121 and it told me that I really lack the skills needed to become a global manager. I actually don't know much about other cultures at this point in my life, but to be an effective manager and, especially an effective global manager, I need to be able to relate to people from other cultures and definitely know information about those cultures and places. To start broadening my horizons, I could learn a foreign language, like Spanish. I may also travel when I have the opportunity to help in the process of learning other languages and immersing myself in other cultures. I could take a World Cultures course to further my education in this area. I also learned from watching “How Tolerant Are You?” on page 380 that I'm not a very tolerant person. I scored a 30 on my tolerance scale, which means I'm less tolerant than the average person and it could really affect my business or personal relationships. I'll have to work on it slowly because it's not a... middle of paper... very important and looking at these tests I found that they told me more about my strengths than my weaknesses. I think weaknesses are the things that could really hold me back from becoming a good manager and even succeeding at becoming one. I think they are the most important part of this whole assignment. My weaknesses are big weaknesses that will require a lot of effort on my part, but they must be eliminated in order to be a successful manager.
